Find The Best Solution On Toilet Leak From Base

Condensation on Toilet Collects on Floor
Since the toilet contains water, it’s natural to assume that the toilet is leaking water from the inside. In many cases, though, it’s just the opposite. Moisture-laden air might be condensing on the outer surface of the toilet bowl or toilet tank. Moisture forms drops that run down the bowl or tank and collect on the floor. This can be due to a constantly running toilet or a temperature difference between the room and the water in the tank. The fix for this problem is to reduce or divert bathroom condensation by adding or improving the bathroom exhaust fan, warming the bathroom, or adding a drip tray below the tank. If a constantly running toilet is part of the problem, that should be repaired, as well. Call Mr.Drain Plumbing at 510-257-1408 to schedule an apointment today.

The triangular bolt may come loose.

You know those plastic caps around the bottom of the toilet bowl? This cap covers a tee that helps hold the toilet bowl firmly in place. Loose or broken bolts can break the toilet seal and cause leaks. Move the toilet so that it is level and centered and start tightening the bolts. If the bolts still spin freely or are broken, contact the store for a replacement set.

WAX RING may damage the toilet bowl.

Tried to check and tighten the T-bolt, but water is still leaking from the toilet base. The wax ring is most likely the cause and needs to be replaced.

Go to the store and buy a new toilet wax ring. If possible, take a picture of the toilet base and ask a professional at the store to help you find a similar replacement.

Prepare the toilet – Start by shutting off the toilet via the water supply valve located behind the toilet.

Then flush the toilet to remove as much of the sitting water as possible. To remove the remaining water, loosen the nut securing the fill valve and collect the excess water with a small bucket. Finally, soak the toilet base for a few seconds to remove any remaining water.

Remove Toilet and Old Wax Ring – Unscrew the water line from the toilet and remove the tee from the floor. You are now ready to lift the toilet and move it from its normal position. Gently lay the toilet on its side and peel off the old wax ring. Before installing the new wax ring, make sure to remove any dried wax and wax residue.

Install a new wax ring. Place the wax ring you just purchased on the flange and secure the T-bolt in place. After installing the new wax ring, return the toilet to its original position.

Reinstall the toilet. Make sure the toilet is in the correct position and use your body weight to push it into the wax ring to create a new seal.

Screw the T-bolt into place (do not overtighten). The toilet should be properly centered and level at this time. Reconnect the water line, reopen the valve and flush. Inspect the toilet bowl carefully to see if water is leaking under the new seal.
